GENESEO, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz's women's soccer team (8-2-1. 3-0-0 SUNYAC) extended its consecutive shutout streak to five games Friday afternoon, defeating SUNY Geneseo (7-2-1, 1-1-1 SUNYAC) on the road by a 3-0 margin in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play at Geneseo.
Junior forward
Shelby Kondelka (Bloomingburg, N.Y./Pine Bush) scored two goals on the afternoon, giving her eight on the season, a team high. Kondelka led all Hawk scorers with nine markers in 2010. Junior goalkeeper
Stephanie Vega (Oceanside, N.Y./Baldwin Senior) earned her seventh shutout on the year, saving four attempts. She has not allowed a goal for 599 minutes and 21 seconds of consecutive play.
Kondelka collected her first points of the day at 9:36, capitalizing on a bad clear by Geneseo and finding net with the keeper drawn out. She extended the New Paltz lead in the second half, when she again took control of a Blue Knights turnover and was able to deposit the ball at 64:53 to give New Paltz a 2-0 edge.
Late in the second half, at 85:08, Geneseo hurt its own chances one last time, knocking in an own goal to end the scoring.
New Paltz was actually outshot in its victory, 9-8. The Hawks were called offside once compared to the Blue Knights' five.
The Hawks continue on in SUNYAC play Saturday, Oct. 1, when they go to Brockport, N.Y., to face The College of Brockport at 1 p.m.
