Hawk Field Hockey Posts Third Straight Shutout, Blanks RPI, 2-0

Box Score

TROY, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (9-4) won its third consecutive game in shutout fashion, as the Hawks topped the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (6-5), 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game. With the victory, New Paltz tied the single-season program record in wins (9), as the 2010 squad also achieved the feat.

Junior defender Alyssa Stock's (Morris Plains, N.J./Whippany Park) unassisted goal at 31:04 helped cap a first half in which the Hawks took 11 shots to the Engineers' two. Coming out of the gates in the second stanza, junior midfielder Lauren Link (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) cashed in on a pass from freshman midfielder/defender Jessica Caruana (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) off a penalty corner, making the score 2-0 just 2:06 into the new period.

RPI had a number of chances to score in the second half, putting two shots on frame and taking five penalty corners in the final 35 minutes of play. Despite their efforts on the attack, the Engineers were unable to reach the scoreboard, and the Hawks moved five games over .500 with five regular-season contests remaining.

For the game, New Paltz held a 15-11 edge in shots and took seven penalty corners to RPI's five.

Junior goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) earned her sixth shutout of the season, making two saves in the victory, while RPI's Hannah Clough shouldered the loss, turning aside three shots.

The Hawks are next in action on Friday, Oct. 12, as they host Vassar College at 4 p.m. at the Turf Field.
