Hawk Men’s Soccer Raises Money for Wounded Warrior Project; Falls 1-0 to Oneonta

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – In the Wounded Warrior Project Game on Saturday, The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (7-7-1, 2-5-1 SUNYAC) fell to SUNY Oneonta (9-4-1, 5-2-0 SUNYAC), 1-0, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup at Alumni Field. All proceeds of the event will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, supporting a full range of programs and services for the generation of injured veterans and their families.
 
New Paltz raised $1,350 that will be donated in its entirety to the Wounded Warrior Project. The day featured programming that included an appearance by the New York Division of Military and Naval Affairs color guard, as well as a halftime show performed by the Patriot Brass Band. The Hawks donned special camouflage jerseys to honor our armed forces.
 
Oneonta's Ian Tenzer scored the only goal of the game on a 16-yard shot that beat sophomore goalkeeper Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) to the left corner of the net in the 22nd minute of the game.
 
Domino picked up his third loss of the season, stopping two shots, but allowing the lone goal. Oneonta's Daniel DeBottis made one save in his shutout victory.
 
The Hawks were outshot, 12-5, on the afternoon, including a 3-1 deficit in shots on goal. The Red Dragons also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
 
New Paltz returns to action on Monday, Oct. 15, as they host Hunter College in a non-conference game at Alumni Field. The game is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
