Hawk Women’s Volleyball Goes 1-1 on First Day of Salisbury Invitational

SALISBURY, Md. – After dropping a 3-1 (25-19, 25-10, 24-26, 25-20) decision to No. 18 Salisbury University (23-1) on day one of the Salisbury Invitational on Saturday, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team (23-4) rebounded with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) victory over the University of Mary Washington (6-9) to finish out the day 1-1.

The Hawks' loss to the Sea Gulls in the first match of the tournament snapped an 11-match win streak.

Against Salisbury, senior outside hitter Michelle Jacobson (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) had 14 kills and 19 digs, while freshman outside hitter Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) boasted 10 kills. Junior setter Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) dished out 42 assists and added 12 digs, while junior libero Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) came up with 20 digs.

Versus Mary Washington, Borquist led the way with 13 kills and 13 digs, while King's statistical line included 34 assists and seven digs. Jacobson floored nine kills and supplied 12 digs, while Hack totaled 14 digs.

The Hawks continue action at the Salisbury Invitational tomorrow, as they square off with Springfield College at 10 a.m. before contesting Richard Stockton College at 12 p.m.
