SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team (31-7) won its third tournament of the 2012 season on Saturday afternoon at the Skidmore Tournament, as it topped Union (N.Y.) College (17-20), 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 30-28), before beating host Skidmore College (25-6), 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21).
Junior setter
Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) was named the Tournament MVP, while senior middle hitter
Dana Vosilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) joined King on the All-Tournament Team.
Against Union, King led the way with 40 assists and 18 digs while adding four kills. Senior outside hitter
Michelle Jacobson had 18 kills and 15 digs, while Vosilla boasted nine kills and three blocks.
In the Skidmore match, junior middle hitter
Liz Hauser (East Williston, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) ignited the offense by hitting .625, which she fashioned by flooring 11 kills and just one error in 16 total attempts. Vosilla collected eight kills and four blocks, while King totaled 42 assists, nine digs and four kills.
New Paltz begins its quest for its second State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title on Friday, Nov. 2, as it squares off with SUNY Oswego in the SUNYAC quarterfinals at 3 p.m. The 2012 SUNYAC Volleyball Championship Tournament is hosted by Buffalo State and will run from Friday, Nov. 2, through Sunday, Nov. 4.
