Harrison Lane’s Hat Trick Fuels Hawk Men’s Soccer Victory over Potsdam, 3-1

Box Score

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Senior defender Harrison Lane (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) recorded his first career hat trick as he led the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (6-6-1, 2-4-0 SUNYAC) to a 3-1 victory over SUNY Potsdam (2-8-2, 0-3-2 SUNYAC) in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup at Maxcy Soccer Field on Saturday.

Lane scored the first of his three goals in the 21st minute off a cross into the box by junior forward Mike Jacobsen (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) which he then deflected off the goalie and into the net to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead. Potsdam tied the game early in the second half, but Lane took the lead back off an assist from senior forward Mateo Cordini (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Martin de Tours) in the 59th minute. Twenty minutes later, Lane lined up another shot from the top of the box off a pass from sophomore midfielder Alec Johnson (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) and fired it past the keeper to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead.

Sophomore goalkeeper Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) stopped three shots and allowed just a single goal to earn his fourth victory of the year for the Hawks. Potsdam's Joseph Glackin made six saves, but allowed three goals to take the loss.

Alessio Vitale scored the only goal for the Bears at the 48:20 mark off a feed from Eduardo Figueroa, which tied the game for the time being.

New Paltz held a significant shot advantage, outshooting the Bears 23-7, including a 9-4 edge in shots on net. The Hawks also led in corner kicks by a 6-4 margin.

The Hawks return to action on Monday, Oct. 8, as they host SUNYIT in a non-conference matchup at 4 p.m. on the Turf Field.
