NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – For the second straight week, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team (2-0) came away with a victory, topping visiting Vassar College (0-5) by a 137-70 final on Saturday afternoon at Elting Pool. Five different Hawks accounted for a total of nine individual event victories.
Sophomore
Marton Keri (Budapest, Hungary/Moricz Zsigmond Gimnazium) led the Hawks once again, as he was a triple-event winner individually. Keri touched first in the 100 backstroke (57.44), the 200 breaststroke (2:15.82) and the 400 individual medley (4:32.77). Sophomore
Jack Spader (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and freshman Rob Taskindoust (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) also enjoyed strong meets individually, winning two events apiece. Spader covered the 1,000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle in event-winning times of 10:17.63 and 5:03.01, respectively, while Taskindoust stopped the clock first in the 200 butterfly (2:05.06) and the 100 butterfly (55.50).
Freshman
Ethan Cooke (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) and senior
Bryan Farm (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) also captured individual events. Cooke pieced together a first-place standard of 1:55.03 in the 200 freestyle, while Farm won the 200 backstroke (2:13.32).
The Hawks outtouched the Brewers in both relay events. The 200 medley relay foursome of Farm, Keri, Taskindoust and freshman
Brandon Finn (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) charted a winning time of 1:41.98, while the contingent of Cooke, freshman
Ryan Lindgren (Hurley, N.Y./Kingston), Farm and Finn closed out the meet with the top performance in the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.87).
Second-place finishes came from junior
Brendan Meyer (Hurley, N.Y./Kingston) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:54.61) and the 200 backstroke (2:15.51), senior
Nick Dubois (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) in the 200 freestyle (1:56.69) and the 500 freestyle (5:13.31), Finn in the 200 butterfly (2:05.06) and Cooke in the 50 freestyle (23.38) and the 100 freestyle (51.53).
New Paltz returns to competition from Friday, Nov. 30, through Sunday, Dec. 2, at the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Winter Championships, which will be held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
