Kondelka Breaks Points Record as New Paltz Women’s Soccer Rallies Past RPI, 4-1

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – With an assist in Wednesday's matchup, senior forward Shelby Kondelka (Bloomingburg, N.Y./Pine Bush) broke the program record for career points, as the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team (5-1-0) came back to defeat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) (2-3-0), 4-1, at Alumni Field.
 
Kondelka's assist in the 88th minute, along with an assist from senior forward Samantha Abravanel (Islip, N.Y./Islip) helped senior midfielder Beth Bowling (Islip, N.Y./Islip) score her fifth goal of the season and the Hawks' fourth of the game. Kondelka now has 51 points over her tenure at New Paltz. She is also currently tied for the career goals mark with 21.
 
Sophomore forward Sarah Painter (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) knotted the score up at one in the 39th minute, and then gave New Paltz the lead for good with her second goal of the game at 46:58.
 
Abravanel made a big splash on the scorecard, notching her fourth goal of the year, as well as her third and fourth assists, for a team-leading 12 points on the season.
 
Nikki Goodsell got the Engineers on the board first with a goal at the 8:11 mark off of her own rebound. The goal was her first of the season.
 
Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Vega (Oceanside, N.Y./Baldwin Senior) picked up her fifth win of the season. She allowed one goal and stopped two shots on the afternoon. Freshman midfielder Kristina Gandolfo (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) picked up her third assist of the 2012 campaign in the win.
 
RPI goalkeeper Deanna Amoia allowed made four saves, but allowed four goals en route to her third loss of the season.
 
The Hawks doubled up the Engineers with a 22-11 shot advantage, as well as a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
New Paltz will take on Bard College this Saturday, Sept. 15, at Alumni Field. The game is slated to kick off at 3:30 p.m.
