NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team (10-1) stretched its winning streak to nine on Friday night at the Hawk Center, as the Hawks went 2-0 on the opening day of their annual Hawks Invitational. They beat Johnson & Wales University, 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16), before topping Ithaca College, 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-16).

New Paltz faced regional rival Ithaca in its nightcap, and after cruising, 25-12, in the opening stanza, the Bombers challenged the Hawks in the second. Ithaca led, 12-6, before New Paltz called a timeout, and the Hawks ended up coming within one at 16-15 after back-to-back kills by Vosilla. A service error by New Paltz allowed Ithaca to mount a two-point cushion, but a run of five straight points ultimately proved to be the difference in vaulting the Hawks to the win in the set. The third frame featured a .306 hitting percentage by New Paltz, which gave it the straight-set triumph.
Vosilla ignited the offense with a .500 hitting percentage (11-1-20), while Jacobson added 10 kills. Jacobson was strong in the back row with 16 digs, while Hack (13) and Borquist (10) also reached double figures. King doled out 38 assists as well. For Ithaca, Marissa Weil had 11 kills and 11 digs for a double-double, and Carly Garone boasted 21 assists.
