Box Score

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Freshman goalkeeper Krysten Kane (Macedon, N.Y./Wayne Central) picked up her first shutout in her first start as a Hawk, leading the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team (6-1-0) to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Bard College (3-3-0) Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Kane got the start in goal on Saturday and made the most of it. She made five saves on the afternoon en route to her first-ever win and shutout in the blue and orange. Her most impressive save came at 27:50, when she scrambled to the close left wing to cut off Alana Shaw's shot before it could get off the ground.

Another freshman, forward Chelsea Weir (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) contributed the lone goal of the game, a blast to the top-right of the net from right in front in the 66th minute, to give the Hawks a lead they would never surrender. The goal was her fourth of the season.

Senior midfielder Beth Bowling (Islip, N.Y./Islip) had a number of chances on the afternoon, taking five shots and putting two on net. Senior forward Shelby Kondelka (Bloomingburg, N.Y./Pine Bush), still needing just one goal to break the program career record, fired off four shots and put one on target.

The Hawks' back four were superb in keeping the visiting Raptors away from the net, especially at the 62-minute mark when they made a team save as the last line of defense in front of the cage. They helped hold a 17-12 advantage in shots.

New Paltz opens its State University of New York Athletic Conference season on Friday, when they take a trip to SUNY Cortland. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
