OSWEGO, N.Y. – Senior forward
Samantha Abravanel (Islip, N.Y./Islip) scored on a standing bicycle kick in the 79th minute to lift the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team (7-2-0, 1-1-0 SUNYAC) to a 1-0 victory in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup with SUNY Oswego (3-4-0, 0-2-0 SUNYAC) on Saturday in Oswego.
Abravanel's fifth goal of the season was assisted by sophomore midfielder
Bryce Kristall (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills West) breaking the scoreless tie. It was also Abravanel's fourth game winner of the season.
In her second start in goal, freshman
Krysten Kane (Macedon, N.Y./Wayne Central) kept her slate clean as she picked up her second win and shutout of the season. She made three saves to prevent Oswego from getting on the scoreboard all afternoon. Oswego's Emily Varonier made 11 saves, but allowed the lone goal to suffer the loss.
The Hawks kept the pressure on all game, firing off 18 shots to Oswego's four, 13 of which were on net. New Paltz also held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
New Paltz returns to action on Friday, Sept. 28, with a SUNYAC matchup with SUNY Geneseo. The action is set to kickoff at 4 p.m. at Alumni Field.
