Hawk Men’s Soccer Suffers 2-0 Setback in Geneseo

Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (5-4-1, 1-2-0 SUNYAC) allowed two first half goals which it could not overcome in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup against SUNY Geneseo (3-4-2, 1-1-1 SUNYAC) on Friday afternoon.

Geneseo's Richard Bellusci headed Pat Lynch's corner kick just inside the left post to give the Blue Knights the lead at the 29:57 mark. Alex Stephan was given the opportunity for a penalty kick in the 42nd minute, but his shot was saved by New Paltz sophomore goalkeeper Andres Montoya (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue). Montoya pushed the ball off the left post, where Jason Falk rebounded the ball and put it into the back of the net to push the lead to two before the half could end.

Montoya made three saves on the afternoon, but allowed the two goals to pick up his fourth loss of the season. Geneseo's Nick Voggel made just one save, but did not allow a ball to get by him en route to the win.

Senior midfielder Shanshe Khosroshvili (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) led the Hawks with five of their 12 shots. Both squads were even with 12 shots, but the Blue Knights managed to put five on net. Geneseo led in corner kicks by a 7-1 margin.

New Paltz continues the weekend of SUNYAC play with a game at The College at Brockport tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 29. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.
