NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – On a rainy day at Alumni Field, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (0-1-1) played to a scoreless tie with Skidmore College (2-0-1) in their home opener Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) did not allow a ball to get past him, saving all three Skidmore shots on goal. This was Domino's first start and shutout in the blue and orange.
The Hawks had a number of opportunities to score in the game, putting eight shots on goal to Skidmore's three, but were unable to put any in the back of the net. New Paltz also outshot the visiting Thoroughbreds, 20-11.
In the 106th minute, the Hawks barely missed a golden goal opportunity when senior midfielder
Mateo Cordini (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Martin de Tours) had a shot stopped from right in front of the net. Freshman forward
Casey Terramoccia (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) found the rebound and fired just high of the net.
The Hawks return to action this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7 and 8, as they will participate in the Bard Raptors Classic at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. They will take on the College of Staten Island at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 3 p.m. matchup with Purchase College on Saturday.
