NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team (2-4) touched first in just one event, losing, 162-91, to SUNY Cortland (9-5) on Friday at Elting Pool. Sophomore
Marton Keri (Budapest, Hungary/Moricz Zsigmond Gimnazium) finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.09.
Keri earned first-place points—but touched second—in the 200 individual medley due to Cortland marking its final two events as exhibition. He charted a standard of 2:08.13. The 400 freestyle relay squad of freshmen
Brandon Finn (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland),
Rod Taskindoust (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) and
Ryan Lindgren (Hurley, N.Y./Kingston) and senior
Bryan Farm (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) earned points the same way, as the foursome placed first in the event with a time of 3:30.33.
True second-place performances came from sophomore
Jack Spader (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) in the 1,000 freestyle (10:27.73) and the 500 freestyle (5:03.46), Taskindoust in the 200 butterfly (2:09.21) and the 100 butterfly (56.54), Keri in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.55) and Farm in the 200 backstroke (2:14.69).
Among Cortland's highlights was Justin Nelson's 200 backstroke, which broke the facility record of 1:58.22. That mark was achieved by New Paltz's Lou Petto back in 1992.
New Paltz competes in its final home meet of the 2012-13 season on Saturday, Jan. 26, as it hosts SUNY Oneonta at 1 p.m. at Elting Pool.
