NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team stayed unbeaten in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) competition on Friday afternoon at the Hawk Center, beating The College at Brockport, 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-20), in the second round of SUNYAC Pool Play hosted by New Paltz.

Brockport struggled to find offense in the match, hitting at a -.010 clip for the afternoon. New Paltz, meanwhile, landed 32 kills and overcame -.034 hitting in the third with a 60 percent sideout percentage to complete the sweep.

New Paltz rises to 18-5 overall and 4-0 in SUNYAC play. The Hawks challenge Buffalo State, which is also unbeaten in league action, tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. match against SUNY Oneonta. Brockport drops to 9-11 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Golden Eagles square off with Oneonta at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning followed by a 12:30 p.m. encounter with Buffalo State.

The Hawks cruised through the first two sets. They hopped out to a 9-1 lead and never looked back in the first stanza en route to a 25-16 win, and in the second, they relied on a six-point run to break away from a 1-all tie to run away with a 25-14 triumph.

The third set, however, presented some drama. After New Paltz took an 11-6 lead, the Golden Eagles went on a 4-0 run, during which Jessica Dobson-Tufo recorded two service aces. New Paltz then answered with two straight points, which was followed by two Brockport points. The Hawks then capitalized on three Golden Eagle errors and capped off the scoring spree with a kill by freshman outside hitter Katy Braddon (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy). After Braddon's termination, New Paltz led, 17-12. Brockport made it a two-point set once again with three consecutive points, but four out of the next five rallies went in favor of New Paltz, handing the Hawks a 21-16 advantage. The closest Brockport came from that point on was when it drew within three at 23-20, but New Paltz closed out the match after that point.

Sophomore outside hitter Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) led a balanced Hawk attack with eight kills, while senior setter Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) finished with 23 assists. Senior libero Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and junior outside hitter Katy Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) paced the back row defensively with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

For Brockport, Amanda Riebe slammed down a team-high six kills, but was hampered by seven attacking errors to end with a -.037 hitting percentage. Jessica Greiner tallied 13 assists, while Mary Cocking collected 14 digs.

Currently, King has 3,978 career assists to her credit and has the potential to eclipse 4,000 tomorrow morning against Buffalo State.
