Women's Volleyball Sweeps on Day 1 of Hartwick/Holiday Inn Tournament

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team won in both of its matches Friday on the first day of the Hartwick/Holiday Inn Tournament hosted by Hartwick College. New Paltz topped host Hartwick, 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-19), before downing Lebanon Valley College, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17), in the nightcap.

With the pair of victories, the Hawks have now won 10 straight matches. New Paltz hit exceptionally well in both contests, fashioning a .292 hitting percentage against Hartwick before hitting at a .345 clip against Lebanon Valley.

New Paltz moves to 22-5 overall and continues action tomorrow at the Hartwick/Holiday Inn Invitational with a 10 a.m. match against The City College of New York and a 2 p.m. clash with SUNY Oneonta. Hartwick drops to 8-17 overall and squares off with Lebanon Valley (12 p.m.) and Utica College (2 p.m.) tomorrow, while Lebanon Valley falls to 22-4 overall and faces Utica (10 a.m.) and Hartwick (12 p.m.) tomorrow.

Against Hartwick, junior outside hitter Alex Bizub (Linden, N.J./Cranford) led the way with a .467 hitting percentage (9-2-15), and sophomore setter Lauren O'Hern (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and senior setter Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) split setting duties, notching 17 and 16 assists, respectively. Senior libero Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) collected 15 digs, while freshman middle hitter Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) came up with two solo blocks.

Versus Lebanon Valley, Bizub led a balanced offense with eight kills, while King doled out 30 assists. Bizub also supported the team defensively with 12 digs and two block assists. Junior outside hitter Alli Coleman (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton Central) keyed the Hawks off the serve with three aces.
