Men's Soccer Hosts Mount Saint Mary in Final Home Game on Tuesday

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team will play its final home game of the season against local rival Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, October 22 at 3:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.

Records: The Hawks enter this afternoon's game with a 4-9-3, 2-4-1 SUYNAC record. The Knights sport a 9-3-1, 5-1-2 Skyline mark.

Scouting the Hawks: This afternoon marks the final home game of the season... Since their last game at Alumni Field, the Hawks have beaten Hunter 1-0 -- on the strength of 34 shots on goal -- and played SUNY Oneonta to a 2-2 double overtime tie on Saturday... The Hawks got goals from seniors Hobie Ramin and Bernardo Menendez on Saturday, with Mendendez scoring on a penalty kick to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead...New Paltz is a perfect 2-for-2 on penalty kicks this season,; opponents are 5-for-5... Menendez leads the team in goals (4), assists (4) and points (12)... The senior class has had success playing at Alumni Field, posting a 5-2-1 record last season and a 6-4 mark as freshmen... The roster boasts five senior players, two international players in Menendez and Javier Ventas hailing from Argentina and Spain respectively.

Scouting the Knights: Mount Saint Mary had decidedly different games this past weekend, playing to a 0-0 double overtime tie against Farmingdale State on Friday and then exploding for 10 goals in a 10-0 victory over Yeshiva on Saturday... For the Knights, who tallied six times in the first half and four in the second half, junior forward Matt Garcia had three goals, all coming in the game's first 30:10... Senior forward Sean Barton had two goals, one in each half... The Knights have outscored their opponents 48-15, with an impressive 22-4 margin coming in the second half... The Knights are in second place in Skyline Conference standings and own a 4-2 non-conference record, with a 3-0 victory over Vassar and a 5-1 win over Bard... MSMC is 1-1 against SUNYAC teams, having lost to Fredonia 3-0 and defeated Buffalo State 3-0.

Last meeting: (Box Score): Then sophomore goalie Steven Domino (Vitale, N.Y./Ichabod Crane made eight saves to earn his first victory as the Hawks got a goal in each half for a 2-0 victory over the Knights in an evening game played at Mount Saint Mary on September 12. Then freshman midfielder Joseph Hughes (Westbury, N.Y/Carle Place got New Paltz on the board in the 39th minute and graduated senior Mateo Cordini (Buenos Aries, Argentina/San Martin de Tours) added the insurance goal, his first as a Hawk, in the 62nd minute.

Head Coaches: New Paltz is coached by Gene Ventriglia, who is in his third year. Mount Saint Mary is led by Kevin Longacre, in his third year.

What's Next: The Hawks finish State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play this weekend with road contests against SUNY Fredonia at 3:00 p.m. and Buffalo State at 1:00 p.m. The Knights host Purchase College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
