NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team wraps up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) competition from Friday-Saturday, Oct. 25-26, at Buffalo State, as the Hawks compete in the third and final round of SUNYAC Pool Play. New Paltz faces SUNY Oswego at 5 p.m. on Friday before taking on SUNY Cortland and SUNY Potsdam at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively, on Saturday.
Records: The Hawks enter this weekend with a 24-5 overall record and a 6-0 mark in conference play. Currently, New Paltz sits atop the SUNYAC standings as the conference's lone remaining undefeated team in SUNYAC matches. Oswego is 17-11 overall and 1-5 in the SUNYAC, while Cortland is 13-15 (3-3 SUNYAC) and Potsdam is 12-12 (4-2 SUNYAC).
Scouting the Hawks: New Paltz earns the No. 1 seed and the right to host the 2013 SUNYAC Volleyball Championship Tournament with two wins this weekend… The Hawks are riding a 12-match winning streak, which is their longest string of consecutive wins since they captured 12 straight contests in 2010… Sophomore outside hitter

Scouting the Lakers: Oswego's head coach J.J. O'Connell earned his 300th career win on Saturday, as the Lakers topped The Sage Colleges and Alfred University in straight sets… O'Connell amassed his 300 wins are cumulative of his time at Oswego and the Stevens Institute of Technology… The Lakers have won three straight matches… Oswego picked up its first conference win during the second round of SUNYAC Pool Play at SUNY Potsdam on Oct. 12, as it topped SUNY Geneseo, 3-1.

Scouting the Red Dragons: Cortland topped Elmira College, 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 15-12), on Tuesday night in a non-conference match… Sophomore Kim Givelechian keyed the Red Dragon attack with a career-high 18 kills, which complemented her 17 digs… Junior Mary Kelly also boasted a career-high in kills, flooring 11 in addition to a team-high five blocks… Cortland is in the thick of the SUNYAC playoff race, as the Red Dragons sit at 3-3 in conference action… If the playoffs were to start today, Cortland would be the No. 6 seed.

Scouting the Bears: Potsdam last competed from Oct. 11-12 at the second round of SUNYAC Pool Play at Maxcy Field House… The Bears, who were previously unbeaten in conference play, went 1-2 during the weekend, losing to SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Fredonia… Potsdam started off the weekend with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-23) victory over SUNY Geneseo… The Bears are in a three-way tie for third in the SUNYAC standings at the moment with key conference matches this weekend against Buffalo State, The College at Brockport and New Paltz.

Head Coaches: New Paltz is led by 12th-year head coach
Matt Giufre, who has guided the Hawks to three NCAA Tournament appearances and one SUNYAC title. Oswego is mentored by second-year head coach J.J. O'Connell, who previously coached for 10 years at the Stevens Institute of Technology. Cortland is coached by Pam Hoerup, who is in her ninth season at the controls. Josh Stokes is in his first year at Potsdam after having been the head coach at Southern Vermont College for three seasons.
What's Next: New Paltz next faces cross-river rival Vassar College on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
