Women’s Soccer Shut Out by Geneseo, 2-0

GENESEO, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team was unable to generate much offense against SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest at Saratoga Field, losing by a 2-0 final to the Knights.

Geneseo controlled the match's tempo, holding a 17-3 margin in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

New Paltz drops to 2-7-3 overall and 0-3-1 in SUNYAC play with the loss. The Hawks return to action on Friday, Oct. 11, when they visit SUNY Potsdam for a 4 p.m. conference contest. Geneseo pulls to 4-4-3 overall and 2-1-1 in conference action. The Knights next face The College at Brockport on Saturday, Oct. 12, in Brockport, N.Y.

Geneseo's Laurie Knapp opened scoring in the 20th minute, burying an unassisted goal that wound up providing the halftime margin of 1-0. The Hawks played the Knights close in the first half, as the halftime shot margin stood at 4-2 in favor of Geneseo. Jori Semrau tacked on an insurance score at 65:09, finding the back of the net unassisted, and the Knights held on for the win.

Sophomore goalkeeper Krysten Kane (Macedon, N.Y./Wayne Central) was saddled with the loss for New Paltz, making seven saves, while Julia Sanger picked up the win and a two-save shutout for Geneseo.
