Men’s Soccer Blanked by SUNYIT, 2-0

UTICA, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team lost, 2-0, to SUNYIT in a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening at Wildcat Field.

SUNYIT relied on strong offensive play from Diego Montaleza, who factored into both of the Wildcats' goals. He finished with a goal and an assist.

New Paltz falls to 3-7-2 overall and next hosts SUNY Potsdam on Friday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m. SUNYIT rises to 9-1-1 overall and next squares off with Wells College on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 12 p.m.

Montaleza put the Wildcats on the board at 40:13, scoring on a penalty kick. SUNYIT tacked on an insurance goal at 76:22, as Montaleza fed Francesco Tine for the score.

SUNYIT held a 17-8 edge in shots and a 6-5 cushion in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Andres Montoya (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) made six saves for the Hawks in the loss, while Malick Faye turned aside four shots to preserve the shutout for the Wildcats.
