Men’s Soccer Blanked by RPI, 2-0, in Liberty League-SUNYAC Challenge

Box Score

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (0-3-1) was unable to climb out of an early 2-0 hole against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (4-1) on Friday afternoon at the Liberty League-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Challenge hosted by Skidmore College, as the Engineers held on for a 2-0 victory.

RPI scored twice in the first half. Pat Noonan put the first goal on the board at 19:26, one-touching a pass from Tyler Kessler. The Engineers took a 2-0 lead at 36:20 when Esmir Hadzic flicked a cross from Tim Terrezza to Alex Dotseth.

The RPI offense cooled down in the second half with just two shots, but the Hawks were unable to answer, taking just two second-half shots of their own.

Sophomore forward Dondre Irving (Elmont, N.Y./Valley Stream North) was the lone New Paltz student-athlete to put a shot on goal, as his header off a corner in the 79th minute was punched over the crossbar by RPI's netminder, Rob Dewald.

Dewald earned the win in net with one stop, while junior goalkeeper Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) turned aside two shots in the loss.

New Paltz finishes action at the Liberty League-SUNYAC Challenge tomorrow, as it faces host Skidmore at 6:30 p.m. RPI will play SUNY Potsdam in the first game of the day at 4 p.m.
