ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team (1-3-2) was unable to score in a defensive skirmish on Friday evening at Bard College's Ferrari Field, as the host Raptors (2-2-1) notched a 1-0 non-conference triumph over the Hawks. It marked Bard's first-ever win in program history over New Paltz, as the Hawks were previously 14-0 against the Raptors heading into the game.
Bard's Maddy Huggins accounted for the contest's only goal at 6:15, as she lofted a shot from around 22 yards out to the upper right-hand corner of the net. Sylvia Kool was credited with the assist on the play. Just a few minutes prior to that score, Huggins had hit the crossbar with a shot.
New Paltz held a narrow 9-8 edge in shots, while both teams earned two corner kicks.
Four Hawks put shot attempts on frame, while junior midfielder
Eleni Anselmi (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland) finished with three total shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Krysten Kane (Macedon, N.Y./Wayne Central) was saddled with the loss, giving up a goal on Bard's lone shot on target. Lily Harris and Kelsey O'Brien each saw time in net for the Raptors, and the pair combined for four saves. Harris was credited with the win.
New Paltz returns to the friendly confines of Alumni Field on Tuesday, Sept. 17, as it hosts Union (N.Y.) College in a non-conference match at 4 p.m. That will open up a four-game home stand for the Hawks.
