NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Sophomore goalkeeper Krysten Kane (Macedon, N.Y./Wayne Central) made seven saves en route to her second shutout and second win of the season on Tuesday, as the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team (2-3-2) took down Union (N.Y.) College (2-2-0), 1-0, at Alumni Field for their first home victory of the season.
Freshman forward Sophie Constantino (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) notched the first goal of her career in the 42nd minute of the game. Junior midfielder Eleni Anselmi (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland) sent a beautiful cross from the right wing into the box to set Constantino up for a perfect header into the wide open net.
Kane stopped seven shots in the win, but required a team save in the 72nd minute when a Union attacker got past her to preserve the shutout. Union's Allison Brustowicz made five saves on Tuesday, but allowed one goal to shoulder the loss.
Union led the game by taking 20 shots to the Hawks' 13. Union also had all of the corner kicks in Tuesday's matchup, holding a 5-0 edge.
New Paltz returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 21, when they host non-conference Wheaton (Mass.) College. The game is set to kick off from Alumni Field at 1 p.m.
