BROCKPORT, N.Y. – After falling behind two sets to none, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team (13-5, 1-0 SUNYAC) staged an incredible comeback, winning, 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-22, 25-15, 15-10), over SUNY Plattsburgh (5-8, 0-1 SUNYAC) on Friday evening in the first round of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pool Play at The College at Brockport.
The Hawks were limited to a .141 hitting percentage, but the front row came up big defensively with 12 total blocks.
Freshman middle hitter
Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and sophomore outside hitter
Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) paced the attack with 11 kills each, while senior setter
Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) dished out 44 assists. Borquist and King each completed the double-double with 16 and 15 digs, respectively, while junior outside hitter
Katy Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) collected the team-high total in the statistical category (31). Roessler put up big numbers on the front row defensively with 10 total blocks (seven solo, three assist).
New Paltz looks to stay unbeaten in league play tomorrow, as it faces SUNY Geneseo at 12:30 p.m. before squaring off with SUNY Fredonia at 3 p.m.
