NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team will look to even its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) record when the Hawks host SUNY Oneonta at the Hawk Center on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS (4-6, 1-2 SUNYAC): The Hawks were unable to sustain momentum against SUNY Cortland on Tuesday at the Hawk Center, allowing a three-point halftime lead to slip away in a 72-69 loss to the Red Dragons... The Hawks trailed just once in the first half, but Cortland seized control of the lead early in the second stanza and never relinquished it... New Paltz, down 13 with 2:16 to play, made things interesting by hitting shots down the stretch, while Cortland went just 6-of-10 from the line in the final 2:16 of regulation...
Taylor Sowah provided the final score with a put-back dunk right before the final buzzer... Sowah ignited the Hawk attack with 18 points, while
R.J. Rosa added 13... New Paltz has not lost to Oneonta at the Hawk Center since Feb. 19, 2010.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Sowah is tops on the team and 11th in the SUNYAC in scoring with 15.0 points per game … Freshman forward
Andrew Seniuk has proven to be an efficient shooter as well, as he is knocking down shots at a team-best 67 percent clip (37-of-57)… Seniuk, however, does not qualify to rank among the SUNYAC leaders, as he does not average five made field goals a game… Senior guard
Andrew Joseph and Sowah are tied for the team lead in rebounding (6.3 rpg)… Joseph owns the SUNYAC's eighth-best per-game average in assists (3.4).
TEAM STATISTICS: The Hawks are holding their opponents to 74.9 points per game, which is the sixth-best average in the SUNYAC… The Hawks rank third in the SUNYAC in free-throw percentage (71.4 percent).
SCOUTING THE RED DRAGONS (5-5, 2-1 SUNYAC): SUNY Oneonta survived a second-half comeback against SUNY Oswego on Tuesday and wound up beating the Lakers, 75-69, in overtime at Dewar Arena... Junior guard Zach Mager, who went 9-of-10 from the line, finished with a team-high 22 points, while sophomore forward Jackson Zuvic added 15 coming off the bench... Oneonta finished with a 45-34 edge in rebounds, and junior forward Larry Brink led the way with nine boards in 20 minutes of reserve duty.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Three players average in double figures for Oneonta, led by Mager (22.7 ppg), which is second best in the SUNYAC… Sophomore forward Mikey McElroy follows (13.4 ppg) and senior guard Dan Lee rounds out the top three (10.8 ppg)… McElroy leads in rebounding (4.6 rpg)… Lee tops in assists (4.1 apg), fifth best in the SUYNAC.
TEAM STATISTICS: In SUNYAC numbers, Oneonta ranks fourth in scoring (77.9 ppg) and ninth in defense (79.3 ppg)… The Red Dragons are the top three-point shooting team in the SUNYAC (37 percent).
LAST MEETINGS: The Hawks swept the 2012-13 season series with Oneonta, earning a 79-70 home victory on Jan. 12, 2013 and a 90-72 road victory on Feb. 15.
