NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Winning breeds confidence, which helps build momentum. That's exactly what the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team hopes to parlay following a 68-62 victory over SUNY Oswego on Tuesday. The Hawks host SUNY Geneseo on Friday at 6 p.m. and The College at Brockport on Saturday at 2 p.m. in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play at the Hawk Center.
THINK PINK GAME: During Friday's match-up against Geneseo, New Paltz women's basketball will raise awareness for breast cancer research by competing in its annual Think Pink game... All gate receipts from Friday's games will be donated to the American Cancer Society... For Friday's game, there will be a general admission charge of $5, but all current New Paltz students will be admitted free of charge... Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to donate toward the cause as well... New Paltz's women's basketball team will celebrate the event by wearing pink tops during the pregame shootaround... Kit Small, the Hawks snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 68-62 victory over Oswego on Tuesday night at the Hawk Center… The game featured featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, but the Hawks went on an 8-0 run in a 1:32 span late in the game to register a 68-62 victory… The game was tied three times in the final 7:15 of the contest, the last at 57-57 with four minutes remaining... Walker earned her career-high 18 points, surpassing her previous high of 16 set against Buffalo State last year, on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and 3-for-6 shooting from long distance... Goldie Harrison finished with 14 points, six of which came off free throws... Irby grabbed 10 rebounds… The team's 40 percent shooting (4-for-10) tied the season best along with the Hamilton College game on Dec. 10.

Jeanette Scott averages 5.0 rebounds per game… Harrison's 2.5 steals per game leads the SUNYAC lead… Scott averages 1.0 blocks per game, sixth best in the conference… Walker's 1.4 three-pointers made per game is 14th best in the SUNYAC… Walker averages 32.4 minutes per game, fifth best in the SUNYAC.
TEAM STATISTICS: The Hawks lead the SUNYAC in offensive rebounds per game (15.3 rpg)… Opponents shoot just 66 percent from the free-throw line, which is the fourth best mark in the conference… The Hawks rank fifth in steals per game (10.3 spg).
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS (9-4, 3-3 SUNYAC): Geneseo sits in fifth place in SUNYAC standings, but three wins behind SUNY Cortland (6-3) thus far, with a nine-game SUNYAC schedule in February… The Knights have won their last two games – snapping a two game losing streak – defeating Oswego, 69-50, and SUNY Fredonia, 81-70, on Tuesday evening… In the Fredonia win, sophomore forward Allison McKenna scored a season-high 24 points and junior forward Shannon McGinnis was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing nine boards… Geneseo is 3-2 on the road.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Three players average in double figures for the Knights led by McGinnis (15.8 ppg), followed by McKenna (10.5 ppg) and sophomore guard Dana Cohan (10.5 ppg)… McGinnis is the fifth leading scorer in the SUNYAC… McGinnis is a rebounding force, leading the SUNYAC (9.9 rpg) and her inside prowess has her averaging 2.1 blocks per game, second best in the SUNYAC… Cohan ranks fourth in assists (4.1 apg).
TEAM STATISTICS: The Knights rank second in the SUNYAC in scoring defensive (58.1 ppg), scoring margin (+8.2 ppg) and field-goal percentage (43 percent) … Opponents shoot just 34 percent against the Knights, third best in the conference… Geneseo is the top defensive rebounding team in the SUNYAC (35.5 rpg)… The Knights block just under four shots a game.
LAST MEETINGS: New Paltz split its two regular-season games against Geneseo last season, winning 73-69 in overtime on Dec. 8, 2012, and losing 73-43 on Jan. 25, 2013... The Hawks topped Geneseo, 64-53, in the rubber match between the two teams in the championship game of the 2013 SUNYAC Women's Basketball Tournament on Feb. 23, 2013... SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES (6-7, 2-4 SUNYAC): Brockport heads into Friday night's game in seventh place in the SUNYAC and will look to snap a two-game losing streak against the top team in the SUNYAC (6-2 Oneonta)… Brockport has lost to Buffalo State (68-52) and SUNY Cortland (78-48) in its previous two SUNYAC games… The Golden Eagles started the season 4-1 and have since gone 2-6 … Heading into the Oneonta game, Brockport is 2-2 on the road.
