NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team will continue in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play this weekend, as it faces SUNY Potsdam on Friday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. and then SUNY Plattsburgh on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m.
 
RECORDS: New Paltz heads into Friday night's game with a 3-14, 1-9 SUNYAC record… Potsdam holds a 4-12, 2-7 record, and Plattsburgh owns a 12-4, 7-2 mark.
 
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (3-14, 1-9 SUNYAC): The Hawks lost, 59-44, to The College at Brockport Jan. 25 in SUNYAC competition… Freshman guard/forward Kit Small led New Paltz in scoring with 13 points, her fifth straight game in double figures, while also leading in rebounds with nine… Sophomore guard Goldie Harrison had a total of nine points, scoring seven in the first half, while sophomore guard Christine Rivera totaled eight points, with six in the first half.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS:  Small leads the Hawks in scoring with 10.7 points per game, which is 17th in the SUNYAC… Freshman forward Courtney Irby leads the team and is ranked fifth in the SUNYAC for rebounds per game with 7.9… Senior forward Jeanette Scott leads the team with 1.0 block per game, which is ranked sixth in the SUNYAC… Junior guard Shannan Walker is ranked sixth in the conference for minutes played, averaging 32.6 per game… Harrison leads the conference in steals with 2.5 per game.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: New Paltz holds its opponents to a scoring average of 64.8 points per game…The Hawks are ranked third in the SUNYAC in offensive rebounds per game (14.5)… Opponents shoot only 67 percent from the free-throw line, which is the fourth-best percentage in the conference… New Paltz ranks fourth in the conference in steals with 10.12 per game.
 

SCOUTING THE BEARS (4-12, 2-7 SUNYAC): Potsdam was handed a loss by conference leader Buffalo State in a 76-64 game on Jan. 25… Although shooting 57 percent from the floor in the first half, the Bears were not able to overcome the 20 turnovers committed in the first 20 minutes of play… Senior forward Jessica Kouzan had 14 points and four steals, while junior guard/forward Bailey Weigel had 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal… Senior guard Chenice Russell finished the game with nine points, four assists and four rebounds.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Kouzan is the team leader and ranks seventh in the SUNYAC for points per game with 15.1 while also ranking first for three-point field goal percentage (37.5)… Weigel is top five in the conference for both assists (3.5) and blocks (1.3) per game.
 
TEAM STATISTICS
: Potsdam ranks fourth in the SUNYAC in three-pointers per game (6.1) and is third in free-throw percentage (70.9 percent).

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS (12-4, 7-2 SUNYAC): Plattsburgh beat SUNY Fredonia 77-73 in a close SUNYAC game on Jan. 25… It marked a historical game for the Cardinals, as senior guard/forward Kathleen Payne scored 19 points and became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the program now sitting at 1,448 career points… Sophomore Stephanie Linder set a Plattsburgh career-high with 17 points, while Brittany Marshall added a season-high 19 points.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Three players average in double figures for the Cardinals: Payne (18.4), Marshall (13.6) and sophomore forward Devona Paul (10.1)… Payne is ranked second in the conference in scoring… Marshall leads the SUNYAC in assists, with 5.5 per game, and free throw percentage (89 percent)… She is also ranked third in the conference averaging 2.3 three-point field goals per game.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: The Cardinals are third in the conference in scoring (69.6 ppg) and fourth in defense (60.4 ppg)… Plattsburgh also tops the conference in free-throw percentage at 71.3 percent… The team is also third in the SUNYAC in rebounding (43.7 rpg).
 
LAST MEETING: After converting seven free throws in the last minutes of the game, Plattsburgh defeated New Paltz 67-60 in SUNYAC play on Jan. 17… See below for that game's recap.

WHAT'S NEXT: New Paltz will head to Cortland, N.Y., to take on SUNY Cortland on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 6 p.m… Potsdam hosts Oneonta on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m., while Plattsburgh next meets up with The College at Brockport in an away game on Friday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m.
