Men’s Soccer Falls at Geneseo, 3-1, in SUNYAC Play

Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at SUNY Geneseo on Friday afternoon in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.

The Hawks, 3-6-1, 0-2-1 SUNYAC, look to get back on track tomorrow at 1 p.m., playing at No. 25 The College at Brockport. The Knights improve to 6-4-1, 2-1-0 SUNYAC and host No. 3 SUNY Oneonta tomorrow at 1 p.m. Oneonta defeated Brockport 3-2 on Friday afternoon.

Every goal in the match was scored in the opening half, as the Knights tallied a marker in only the third minute of action on a header off a corner kick. Geneseo notched their next goal in the 22nd minute and followed with another score just 14 seconds later to put the Hawks in a 3-0 hole.

But New Paltz ruined the clean sheet in the 32nd minute as freshman forward Aleco Podias (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) scored his first career goal on a shot from the top of the box that found the top right corner. Junior midfielder/forward Dondre Irving (Elmont, N.Y./Valley Stream North) assisted on the score for his eighth-career point.

Podias and senior midfielder Alec Johnson (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) both recorded two shots apiece to lead the Hawk offense.

Senior goalkeeper Steven Domino was charged with the loss but in the process recorded a career-high 16 saves. The 16 saves are the most in a game for New Paltz since senior Andres Montoya (Levitttown, N.Y./Division Avenue) recorded 10 against Vassar on August 31, 2012.
