Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to SUNY Geneseo in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Hawks, 6-5-1, 0-2-1 SUNYAC, look to bounce back on Saturday hosting The College at Brockport tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Knights, meanwhile, improve to 8-2-1, 2-1-0 SUNYAC and travel to SUNY Oneonta for a 1 p.m. match tomorrow afternoon. Oneonta defeated Brockport on Friday, 2-1.
New Paltz started the game with three consecutive shots in the opening seven minutes but then the Knights tallied two first-half scores, both off the bench by freshman Leah Greene, in the 22
nd and 31
st minutes, to put the Hawks in a 2-0 deficit at intermission.
In the second period, Geneseo scored three more markers to hand New Paltz the conference defeat. Greene scored her third goal of the afternoon in the 52
nd minute.
The Hawks managed to fire off 10 shots during the match, with three being on target. Sophomore midfielder
Skye Kaler (Charlton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led the attack with a game-high five shots, with one on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper
Katelyn Cordero (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) suffered the defeat and recorded four saves in her 55:27 of playing time. Sophomore goalkeeper
Ashley Rivera (Brooklyn, N.Y./Long Island City) played the remaining 34:33 and registered her first career saves.
