NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The 2014-15 season tips off this weekend for the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team as the Hawks compete in the 31st-annual Emmanuel College Tournament on Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 15-16.
LAST YEAR'S RECORDS: The Hawks finished 6-19, 4-14 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)… The host Saints went 19-8 with a perfect 11-0 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)… William Paterson posted an 18-10 mark with a 13-5 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC)… Mount Saint Mary finished 5-20 with all five wins coming in Skyline Conference action.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS: New Paltz is coached by ninth-year head coach
Jamie Seward, who has a 135-80 mark… The Hawks have five captains this season: senior guard
Shannan Walker, junior guard
Goldie Harrison, senior guard
Ashley Riefenhauser, junior guard
Christine Rivera and junior forward
Ana Morel… Sophomore
Kit Small led the team in scoring last year with 11.0 ppg… Harrison averaged 9.4 ppg, 3.0 rpg and 2.2 apg… Walker averaged 8.4 ppg… Sophomore
Courtney Irby averaged 8.2 ppg and led the team with 9.0 rpg… Rivera contributed 7.0 ppg while Riefenhauser averaged 5.3 ppg.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS: William Paterson is led by 22nd-year head coach Erin Monahan, who holds a 414-162 career record… The Pioneers have two seniors, guard Kara Lazauskas and forward Ashley Marfo… William Paterson welcomes six freshman to the squad this season… Marfo averaged 6.6 ppg and 6.7 rpg last year… Junior Brittany Harden averaged 10.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.7 apg and 2.8 spg.
LAST MEETING:
The Hawks fell to No. 4 William Paterson 74-63 when these two teams last met on Nov. 22, 2011.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS: Emmanuel is led by 38th-year head coach Andrew Yosinoff, who is currently the winningest head coach among active DIII women's basketball programs with 728 victories… The Saints feature two seniors: forwards Jennifer Bujnowski and Vanessa Bramante… Emmanuel welcomes three freshman to the team… Bujnowski averaged 9.7 ppg and 6.6 rpg… Bramante chipped in 7.5 ppg and 4.7 rpg.
LAST MEETING: This would be the first meeting between New Paltz and Emmanuel if these two teams meet up in the championship on Sunday.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS: Mount Saint Mary is coached by Michael Coppolino, who is entering his second season (5-20 overall)… The Knights have a trio of seniors: guard Lauren Romao, guard Audrey Pooley and forward Natalie Candarelli… Mount Saint Mary welcomes seven freshman to the team… Two sophomores and a junior round out the roster… Candarelli averaged 11.5 ppg and 5.4 rpg… Romao chipped in 11.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 2.8 apg.

The Hawks defeated the Knights 69-47 when these two teams last met on Nov. 26, 2013.
