NCAA Tournament to Begin for Women's Volleyball on Friday

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The NCAA Division III Tournament begins on Friday, Nov. 13, at 12:30 p.m for the State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team, as the Hawks face Haverford College in first-round action at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.
 
RECORDS: The Hawks are sitting at 31-5 and have won 10 straight matches including the 2014 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title for the automatic bid… Haverford is 21-9 and earned an at-large bid into the bracket... The Fords are the only at-large qualifier in the Christopher Newport Regional.
 

19874SCOUTING THE HAWKS (31-5): New Paltz is making its third straight and fifth overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament... The Hawks gained automatic qualification into the tournament by virtue of winning the SUNYAC title, their second in program history... New Paltz, the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament, topped fourth-seeded The College at Brockport, 3-0, in the semifinals before defeating SUNY Fredonia, 3-0, in the championship match... Junior outside hitter Becca Borquist was named the Tournament MVP, while senior libero Katy Herbst and senior middle hitter Alli Coleman joined her on the All-Tournament Team... Borquist was named the SUNYAC Player of the Year, First-Team All-SUNYAC and All-Northeast Region, while Herbst was a First-Team All-SUNYAC and an All-Northeast Region honoree... Freshman setter Maddie Zwickl has picked up SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, Northeast Region Freshman of the Year and Thrid-Team All-SUNYAC accolades, while sophomore middle hitter Morgan Roessler was named Second-Team All-SUNYAC... Thirteenth-year head coach Matt Giufre earned SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors for the fifth time in his career before earning Northeast Region Coach of the Year recognition... Borquist leads the SUNYAC and ranks 43rd in NCAA Division III in kills per set (3.74)... She also ranks seventh in the conference in hitting percentage (.243).

19940SCOUTING THE FORDS (21-9): Junior Meg O'Day was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year… O'Day and junior Keri Godbe were selected to the All-Centennial First Team while junior Jeanna Kenney was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team… O'Day is the fifth Haverford member to be named Player of the Year… The Fords are led by fourth-year head coach Michele Benoit… Haverford went 9-1 in Centennial regular season action… The Fords fell to Franklin & Marshall in the conference semifinal… Haverford defeated then-No. 14 Eastern 3-2 on Sept. 27.
