NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team showed why it earned the No. 1 seed in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament on Saturday evening in the semifinal round, as the Hawks eased past fourth-seeded The College at Brockport, 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-15), in front of a raucous home crowd at the Hawk Center.

New Paltz's offense clicked on all cylinders in the match, hitting .275 with strong production out of the middle. Brockport, meanwhile, was limited to .029 hitting, which was due in part to a -.133 hitting percentage in the first set. New Paltz outgained Brockport in service aces (6-3) and total team blocks (4-2) as well.

The Hawks rise to 30-5 with the win and have now won 13 of their past 14 matches and nine straight. New Paltz meets up with second-seeded SUNY Fredonia in the championship match tomorrow at 12 p.m. at the Hawk Center with an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament on the line. Brockport ends its season at 22-12.

New Paltz cruised through the first set, giving up consecutive points just once en route to hitting .323 and winning the set, 25-8.

Brockport challenged New Paltz in the second stanza, going point for point with the Hawks. The Golden Eagles' high-water mark of the set came just past the midway point, as a kill by freshman outside hitter Emily Flohr gave Brockport an 18-17 lead and forced a New Paltz timeout. After sophomore middle hitter Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Flohr traded kills, the Hawks went on a 5-0 tear, which they rode out down the stretch on their way to a 25-21 triumph in the stanza.

Brockport kept New Paltz on its toes early in the third, scoring five unanswered points to build a 5-2 lead. The Hawks ended up battling back, though, with a seven-point scoring spree leading to a 10-6 advantage. The Golden Eagles continued to battle, but a 6-1 New Paltz run that swelled the lead to 19-11 proved too much to overcome.

Junior outside hitter Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) powered the Hawks' attack with 17 kills and a .412 hitting percentage, and she added 12 digs to complete the double-double. Senior middle hitter Alli Coleman (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton Central) also stepped up offensively with 12 kills, while freshman setter Maddie Zwickl (Chester, N.Y./Warwick Valley) dished out 43 assists and landed three service aces. Defensively, senior libero Katy Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and sophomore outside hitter Anna Paulik (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) notched 17 and 15 digs, respectively, while Paulik tallied three block assists.

For Brockport, junior opposite/middle blocker Kayla Barber posted a team-high six kills, while freshman setter Noelle Poloncarz handed out 17 assists. Senior outside hitter/libero Jaime Snyder keyed the back row defensively with a match-high 20 digs.
