NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team will travel to Oneonta, N.Y., on Friday, Feb. 14, to take on SUNY Oneonta at 6 p.m. for a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game.
RECORDS: New Paltz heads into Friday's game with a 5-17, 3-12 SUNYAC record while Oneonta has a 16-6, 10-5 record.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (5-17, 3-12 SUNYAC): New Paltz fell to SUNY Fredonia in an 81-59 SUNYAC loss on Saturday, Feb. 8… Freshman forward
Courtney Irby led New Paltz with 18 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard
Shannan Walker finished with 12 points, all from 3-point range.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Small leads New Paltz in scoring with 11.4 points per game… Irby is solid on the boards by notching 8.5 rebounds per game, which leads the Hawks and is fourth overall in the SUNYAC... Harrison is good for 2.2 steals per game, which is second in the conference… Harrison also leads the team in assists per game (2.3)… Walker leads the Hawks in minutes played with 32.8 minutes per game, which ranks fifth in the conference.
TEAM STATISTICS: New Paltz holds its opponents to 66.3 points per game… The Hawks are fourth in the conference in offensive rebounds per game (14)... Opponents only shoot 66 percent from the free-throw line, which is good for fifth in the conference… The Hawks rank fifth in the conference in blocks, as they block 2.59 shots per game… They also rank fourth in the conference in steals, averaging 10 per game.
SCOUTING THE RED DRAGONS (16-6, 10-5 SUNYAC): Oneonta beat first-place Buffalo State, 70-54, on Feb. 8, moving the Red Dragons closer to securing a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament… Senior guard Alyshia Crawford scored a game-high 21 points, while senior guard Grace Schilling contributed 15 points and five steals and sophomore guard Lyteshia Price recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Crawford leads the Red Dragons and is ranked fourth in the SUNYAC in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game… She also leads the SUNYAC in 3-point field goals per game with 2.8… Schilling leads the team in assists per game with 3.0… Oneonta players rank first in the conference in blocked shots and steals, as junior center Sarah Longto averages 1.9 blocked shots per game and Schilling averages 2.4 steals per game.
TEAM STATISTICS: The Red Dragons hold their opponents to only 55.4 points per game, which leads the conference in scoring defense… Oneonta ranks third in the SUNYAC in free-throw percentage (69.6 percent)…The team leads the conference in steals, averaging 10.57 per game… Oneonta is the second-ranked team in the SUNYAC in blocked shots with 3.52 per game.
