NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – After facing a setback at the hands of SUNY Cortland, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team looks to bounce back with a couple of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) wins as they host Buffalo State and SUNY Fredonia on Friday, Feb. 7, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m., respectively.
RECORDS: New Paltz enters the weekend with a 6-14, 3-10 SUNYAC record… Buffalo State holds a 10-9, 6-6 mark... Fredonia has a 5-14, 2-10 record.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (6-14, 3-10 SUNYAC): The Hawks fell, 84-56, versus Cortland on Tuesday, Feb. 4, in a SUNYAC game... Junior guard/ forward
Taylor Sowah led the Hawks in scoring with 14 points... He also tallied team-highs in rebounds (8) and steals (3)… Sophomore guard
Keegan Donovan helped run the offense with a team-high 5 assists.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Sowah leads New Paltz and is ninth in the SUNYAC in scoring with 16.3 points per game while also leading the team in rebounds with 6.7 per game, which ranks him ninth in the SUNYAC…
Andrew Joseph ranks fourth in the SUNYAC for rebounds with 3.9 per game, which is also a team-high.
TEAM STATISTICS: The Hawks score 70.9 points per game… They are among the top in the conference from the free-throw line, as they shoot 72 percent from the charity stripe... Opponents are only good for 66 percent from the free-throw line against the Hawks... New Paltz also ranks fourth in the conference in offensive rebounds with 12.5 per game… They average 12.95 assists per game, which is good for fifth overall in the SUNYAC.
SCOUTING THE BENGALS (10-9, 6-6 SUNYAC): Buffalo State had a dramatic 90-83 home victory over SUNY Cortland in overtime on Saturday, Feb. 1... Junior guard Roderick Epps, who became the 21st player in Buffalo State history to score 1,000 points in his career, hit a big three-pointer in the last seconds of regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime... Epps finished the game with 21 points… Junior forward Chris Thompson led the Bengals with 22 points while notching seven rebounds… Senior forward Justin Mitchell had an impressive effort by adding 15 points and seven assists.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Mitchell leads Buffalo State and is third in the SUNYAC in scoring with 20.4 points per game... Mitchell also leads the team and ranks sixth in the SUNYAC in rebounding, as he has accumulated 6.8 rebounds per game... Sophomore guard Bradley Doyley has 4.7 assists per game, which is good for second among SUNYAC student-athletes.
TEAM STATISTICS: Buffalo State's strength is in its offense, which scores 80.3 points per game, good for third in the SUNYAC… The Bengals are also second in the SUNYAC in field-goal percentage, shooting 47 percent from the floor.
LAST MEETING: Buffalo State handed New Paltz its first SUNYAC loss of the season when it beat the Hawks, 109-99, on Dec. 7 in Buffalo, N.Y… The game recap is shown below.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS (5-14, 2-10 SUNYAC): Fredonia had a dramatic win of its own, as it topped SUNY Oswego, 68-66, in overtime in a SUNYAC contest in Fredonia, N.Y., on Saturday, Feb. 1… Sophomore forward Alexander Grace hit a shot at the buzzer in overtime to give the Blue Devils the victory... Grace finished with six points, while senior guard/forward Tyrone Clark finished the game with 32 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
STATSITICAL LEADERS: Clark scores 20.7 points per game for the Blue Devils, which places him at second in the SUNYAC... He also ranks fifth in the SUNYAC in field-goal percentage at 54 percent… Robert Lyles leads Fredonia in assists with 3.6 per game.
TEAM STATISTICS: The Blue Devils are fourth in the SUNYAC in steals with 7.68 per game… They score 65.5 points per game and hold a 41 percent field-goal percentage.
