Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Two second-half goals by visiting Bard College handed the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team its first loss of the year, as the Hawks fell to the Raptors 2-1 on Friday afternoon in the first contest played on the recently-opened New Turf Field.
The Hawks (5-1) will look to bounce back tomorrow at Mount Saint Mary College at 1 p.m. The Raptors (2-2-1) host Hartwick College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Freshman forward
Gabriela Cabello (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) scored her first career goal in the first half, but the Raptors would go on to tally a pair of second-half scores to earn their second-straight win against the Hawks after snapping an 0-14 skid in 2013.
The match was scoreless until the 44th minute, when Cabello took a feed from senior midfielder
Eleni Anselmi (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland) and buried her shot in the right corner of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead at halftime.
But Bard goals in the 51st and 58th minutes proved to be enough to hand New Paltz its first loss of the year. The Hawks had won a program-record five-straight games to begin the campaign.
The Hawks outshot the Raptors, 15-8, with Anselmi and sophomore midfielder
Hannah Moran (Albany, N.Y./Albany) both contributing three shots each. Sophomore defender
Sloane Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) and senior defender
Bryce Kristall (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) both tallied two shots apiece.
Freshman keeper
Katelyn Cordero (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) suffered her first defeat of the year, making two saves in the match.
