NEWBURGH, N.Y. – After suffering its first defeat of the season on Wednesday, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer squad responded with a 3-0 shutout win at Mount Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks improve to 6-1 and will travel to Union (N.Y.) on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. The Knights, meanwhile, fall to 2-2 and host Bard on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.

The match was scoreless until the 39th minute when sophomore midfielder Skye Kaler (Charlton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) took a feed at midfield from senior defender Bryce Kristall (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) and beat the keeper for her second goal of the season, handing New Paltz a 1-0 lead.

The contest would remain 1-0 in favor of New Paltz until senior captain Eleni Anselmi (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland) gave the Hawks a 2-0 edge in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick goal. Senior midfielder Sarah Painter (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) tacked on some insurance in the 65th with a blast from about 30 yards away, also assisted by Kristall, to put the match out of reach at 3-0.
