Women’s Soccer Remains Undefeated with 1-0 Blanking of Brooklyn

Box Score

NEWARK, N.J. – A second-half goal by sophomore defender Sloane Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) proved to be enough for the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team, as the Hawks defeated Brooklyn College, 1-0, on the opening day of the Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic, hosted by Rutgers University-Newark.

The Hawks (3-0) take on the host Scarlet Raiders tomorrow at 4 p.m., while the Bulldogs (0-3) play Frostburg State at 1 p.m.

In the 69th minute, Lipshie found the back of the net, thanks to an assist from senior midfielder Eleni Anselmi (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland).

New Paltz outshot Brooklyn 22-4, including a 12-0 second-half margin. Anselmi fired off a game-high four shots during the afternoon.

Freshman keeper Katelyn Cordero (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) earned her third victory in as many games and recorded one save.

Eight players had at least two shots for the Hawks, as junior midfielder Kristina Gandolfo (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) and sophomore midfielder Hannah Moran (Albany, N.Y./Albany) helped pace the attack with three shots apiece.
