Women's Basketball Preps for Trinity on Tuesday

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Looking to ride momentum following a 2-0 home weekend, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team is set to close out its brief three-game homestand on Tuesday night, hosting Trinity (Conn.) at 7 p.m. in the Hawk Center.
 
RECORDS: The Hawks are sitting at 6-5 overall, 3-2 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)… The Bantams are 4-8 and 0-2 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
 

19874SCOUTING THE HAWKS (6-5): New Paltz went 2-1 last weekend with wins over conference opponents Brockport (77-64) and Geneseo (57-47)… Junior guard/forward Colleen Ames averaged 10.3 ppg off the bench including scoring a season-high 19 points in just 16 minutes against Brockport… Freshman guard/forward Jasmine Bryant netted 15 points versus the Golden Eagles… Freshman guard/forward Laura Stuart hauled in a team-high 11 rebounds… Against Geneseo, senior guard Shannan Walker and junior guard Goldie Harrison led the way with 14 and 11 points, respectively… Sophomore forward Courtney Irby grabbed a team-best 10 boards… New Paltz will head on the road for three-straight SUNYAC contests at Oneonta, Fredonia and Buffalo State before returning home on Jan. 30.

TEAM STATISTICS: New Paltz leads the SUNYAC in turnover margin (+6.91), steals per game (12.45 spg), field goal defense (33.8 percent) and three-point field goal percentage defense (24.0 percent)… The Hawks rank second in the league in scoring margin (+6.1), three pointers made per game (6.4), rebounding offense (48.2 rpg) and offensive rebounds per game (20.5 rpg).
 

5832SCOUTING THE BANTAMS (4-8): Trinity fell twice at home over the weekend to NESCAC opponents Williams and Hamilton… Against Williams, junior center Mackenzie Griffin poured in a game-high 20 points… Junior forward Melanie Mills scored nine points while recording eight rebounds and three assists off the bench… Versus Hamilton, Griffin led the team with 13 points… Mills grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds… Freshman forward/center Emily Llerena chipped in eight points and seven boards off the bench… The Bantams have defeated Skidmore, Anna Maria, Ramapo and Mitchell this season… Trinity went 16-9, 7-3 NESCAC last season, falling to Tufts in the conference semifinals.
