Men’s Swimming Edges Oneonta, 138-124, in Last Home Meet of 2014-15

Meet Results

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – It came down to the last relay, but the State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team was able to eke out a 138-124 victory over SUNY Oneonta on Saturday afternoon at Elting Pool in the Hawks' final home meet of 2014-15.

The Hawks' momentum began in the first event, as their 200 medley relay team of freshman Caleb Treadwell (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and juniors Ryan Lindgren (Hurley, N.Y./Kingston), Ethan Cooke (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) and Will Koenig (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley) raced to a first-place time of 1:39.57. Up 125-120 heading into the 200 freestyle relay, Treadwell gave New Paltz a lead it would not relinquish after a 22.75 leadoff leg, as the relay—which also included junior Brandon Finn (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland), Cooke and Koenig—clocked an event-best 1:28.66.

The Hawks, who rise to 4-2 overall in dual meets with the win, face perennial powerhouse SUNY Geneseo on the road on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. in their final tune-up before the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, which run from Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 19-21, at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, N.Y. The Red Dragons drop to 3-4 overall and next compete as a full team at SUNY Cortland on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m.

Senior Jack Spader (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and Koenig each won two events for the Hawks. Spader led the way in the 1,000 freestyle (10:25.94) and the 500 freestyle (5:01.05), while Koenig posted first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (22.18) and the 100 freestyle (49.15). Junior Rod Taskindoust (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) also boasted an individual event win, as he posted a come-from-behind victory in the 200 freestyle (1:53.02).

Second-place finishes came from Lindgren in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.35) and the 200 breaststroke (2:23.67), Treadwell in the 50 freestyle (22.87) and the 100 butterfly (55.33), freshman Marc Piliero (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) in the 200 backstroke (2:07.45) and the 200 individual medley (2:08.73) and Taskindoust in the 100 freestyle (50.83).
