NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team begins a five-game homestand this weekend, Jan. 30-31, hosting Oswego and Cortland in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.
RECORDS: The Hawks are 7-8, 5-3 SUNYAC and 3-1 at home… The Lakers are 11-4, 7-1 SUNYAC and 4-1 away… The Red Dragons are 12-3, 5-3 SUNYAC with a 4-1 away record.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (7-8, 5-8): New Paltz is in third place in the SUNYAC… This past Saturday, the Hawks battled Buffalo State in a tough, high-scoring loss, falling 95-89… The Hawks shot 50 percent from the floor and 74 percent from the foul line… Four different Hawks had double figures in this meeting as senior guard/forward
R.J. Rosa scored 24 points with shooting 8-of -13 from the floor… Senior guard/forward

Eric Regenbogen each dropped 16 points for the Hawks… Junior forward

SCOUTING THE LAKERS (11-4, 7-1): Oswego is sitting in first place in the SUNYAC…The Lakers are fresh off a conference win against Brockport on Tuesday, Jan. 20, defeating the Golden Eagles 66-51… Defense played a key role in the win by holding Brockport from scoring a single basket for the first five minutes of the contest… The Oswego defense did not let Brockport score any three-pointers the entire game… Junior guard Kyle Covley had a big night for the Lakers coming away with 24 points… Senior Rashawn Powell recorded a double-double for the Lakers with 13 points and 12 boards… Junior guard Walter Sampson also obtained double-digits by draining 12 points.

SCOUTING THE RED DRAGONS (12-3, 5-3): Cortland is in fourth place in the SUNYAC… This past weekend the Red Dragons won a non-conference matchup against Elmira, 54-43… Freshman guard Paul Burke and freshman forward Justin Prendergast each scored 10 points off the bench for the Red Dragons… This win for Cortland was a true team effort with junior guard T.J. Hefele finishing with eight points, senior guard Lamard Herron scoring seven, and senior center Matt McGowan totaling six points… The Red Dragons shot 41 percent from the floor and 68 percent from the line against the Soaring Eagles.
