Box Score 2 PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team won twice on the final day of the second State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pool Play of the season Saturday at Memorial Hall, defeating host SUNY Plattsburgh, 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-12, 25-20), before downing Buffalo State, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17).
New Paltz rises to 14-7 overall (6-0 SUNYAC) with the victories and now has won 24 consecutive SUNYAC matches dating back to the implementation of the non-divisional conference schedule in 2013.The Hawks are just one of two undefeated teams remaining in the conference, as The College at Brockport is also 6-0. New Paltz returns to action from Friday-Saturday, Oct. 16-17, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Tournament.
New Paltz 3, Plattsburgh 1 The Hawks limited the Cardinals to .075 (40-28-161) hitting in their first match of the day, and New Paltz also finished with a decisive 15-3 edge in blocks while hitting .198 (52-20-162) as a team.
Senior
Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinbeck) paced the Hawks with a double-double, notching 17 kills and 18 digs, while sophomore setter
Maddie Zwickl (Chester, N.Y./Warwick Valley) dished out 51 assists. Defensively, junior liberos
Rachel Pierson (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley),
Anna Paulik (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and
Meg Kinee (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) defended 29, 20 and 13 digs, respectively, while junior middle hitter
Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) posted six total blocks (four solo, two assist).
For Plattsburgh, freshman outside hitter Sam Colombo and sophomore middle hitter Noelle Miller tallied 14 and 11 kills, respectively, while freshman setter Sydney Gabriel handed out 30 assists and registered 16 digs.
New Paltz 3, Buffalo State 1 In the nightcap, the Hawks finished with the upper hand in hitting percentage (.142-.115) and service aces (7-3), but the Bengals held a slight edge in total blocks (8-7).
Roessler and Borquist led the offense with 14 kills apiece, while Zwickl provided 49 assists. Borquist and Zwickl also registered double-doubles with 16 and 11 digs, respectively. Pierson defended a career-high 34 digs, while Paulik and Kinee racked up 21 and 12 digs, respectively.
For Buffalo State, junior outside hitter Ashleen Speen and senior outside hitter Hannah Renaldo floored 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while senior setter/right side Jennifer Cecchettini issued 34 assists. Senior libero Rachelle Kelchlin shored up the back row defensively with 23 digs.
