Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and Catskill Cup rival SUNY Oneonta on Saturday afternoon. Oneonta earns two points for the win but the Hawks remain ahead, 5-2, in the 2015-16 Catskill Cup standings.
The Hawks (2-11-2, 1-4-2 SUNYAC) will remain home as they host Buffalo State on Friday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. The Red Dragons (10-2-2, 6-0-1 SUNYAC) return home to host SUNY Fredonia on Friday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m.
The Red Dragons controlled most of the play in the first half and quickly gained a 1-0 lead over the Hawks with a goal by senior midfielder Avery Serfis in the 20th minute.
Although the New Paltz defense held firm against a strong Oneonta offense in the second half, a penalty kick taken by senior forward Kayla Ceschini in the 82nd minute sealed the final 2-0 win for the Red Dragons.
Oneonta outshot the Hawks, 18-7, and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Serfis, Ceschini, and senior midfielder Jessica Lyden led the Oneonta offense, each notching three shots with two on goal.

Chelsea Weir (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) led the offense with three shots. Sophomore defenders
Monica Rouse (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam) and
Alexa Appel (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), junior midfielder
Hannah Moran (Albany, N.Y./Albany), and sophomore midfielder
Danielle Grossi (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) added to New Paltz's efforts, registering one shot apiece.
Junior goalkeeper
Mikaela Stiklickas (Nesconset, N.Y./The Stony Brook) took the loss in goal but made eight saves between the posts for New Paltz. Senior goalkeeper Kelley Murphy had two saves in goal to earn the win for the Red Dragons.
