Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Amidst rain and cold conditions, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team defeated State University of Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe SUNY Geneseo, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at the South Turf Field.
The Hawks improve to 7-3-0, 2-1-0 and look to repeat their success when they host The College at Brockport tomorrow at 1 p.m. Geneseo falls to 5-3-3, 1-2-0 and will face SUNY Oneonta tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Senior midfielder
Jake Falk (Jericho, N.Y./Jericho) put the Hawks first on the board in the 31st minute, striking the ball into the upper right corner of the goal on a pass from junior forward
Tyler Lundgren (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill) for a 1-0 advantage.
Geneseo was quick to respond, as Matt D'Amico knocked in a rebound shot from Jaisen Clark to even up the score minutes later, which proved to be the halftime margin.
Both teams looked to break the tie in the second half but couldn't find their target until senior midfielder
Joe Hughes (Westbury, N.Y./Carle Place) found the back of the net on a double assist from junior midfielder
Sam Spring (Long Island City, N.Y./NYC Lab School for Collaborative Studies) and junior midfielder
Tucker Stern (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) to seal the 2-1 win for the Hawks.
The Hawks and the Knights held an even advantage in shots (11-11) and corner kicks (3-3).
Offensively, Lundgren recorded three shots and one assist on the day, while Falk and junior midfielder
Charlie Versen (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School) tallied two shots each.
Sophomore goalkeeper
John Guzzo (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) made three stops in goal to earn the win.
