Women's Soccer Ties Buffalo State, 0-0, in Double Overtime

Box Score

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team played a tough defensive game as the Hawks held State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe Buffalo State at a 0-0 stalemate after two regulation halves and two overtime periods on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Hawks (2-11-3, 1-4-3 SUNYAC) round out their regular season play tomorrow when they host SUNY Fredonia at 1 p.m. The Bengals (12-3-1, 7-0-1 SUNYAC) continue their weekend travel games tomorrow when they pay a visit to SUNY Oneonta at 1 p.m.

From the start, the Bengals put on a heavy offensive pressure but the New Paltz defense refused to back down as the Hawks managed to keep Buffalo State from breaking open the scoring and forced the game into overtime.

Buffalo State searched for its opportunity to steal the win but the Hawks maintained their strong defensive play as the two overtime periods came to a close, sealing the 0-0 tie.

Buffalo State held a 24-0 shot advantage over the Hawks but the teams registered three corner kicks apiece. Junior midfielder Jessica Smolinski, junior forward Melissa Smith, senior forward Meghan Allan, and sophomore midfielder Victoria Colotti led the Bengals' offense with five shots each.

Junior goalkeeper Mikaela Stiklickas (Nesconset, N.Y./The Stony Brook School) recorded seven saves in goal for her fourth shutout of the season.
