Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team downed SUNY Oswego, 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 14-25, 25-21), on Friday during the first day of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pool Play weekend hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh at Memorial Hall.
New Paltz rises to 12-7 overall (4-0 SUNYAC) and wraps up the weekend with matches tomorrow against host Plattsburgh (10 a.m.) and Buffalo State (12:30 p.m.). Oswego falls to 15-7 overall (2-2 SUNYAC) and contests Buffalo State (10 a.m.) and Plattsburgh (12:30 p.m.) tomorrow.
The Hawks had the upper hand in hitting percentage (.154-.129) and blocks (11-6), while the Lakers posted seven service aces to the Hawks' five.
Junior middle hitter
Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) keyed the New Paltz attack with 13 kills, while senior outside hitter
Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) posted a double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore setter
Maddie Zwickl (Chester, N.Y./Warwick Valley) dished out 45 assists and defended 10 digs to complete the double-double, while junior liberos
Anna Paulik (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh),
Rachel Pierson (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) and
Meg Kinee (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) tallied 21, 20 and 13 digs, respectively.
Freshman right side/outside hitter Ariel Murawski finished with a team-high 10 kills for Oswego, while junior setter Lauren Edwards handed out 21 assists. Junior outside hitter Kim Cassa served up four aces, while senior libero Rachael Ruggaber and junior setter Lindsey Champitto registered 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
