Box Score Tournament WebsiteBROCKPORT, N.Y. – The second-seeded State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-22) victory over third-seeded SUNY Oswego in the semifinal round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon at The College at Brockport's Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
New Paltz held Oswego to .030 hitting on the match while fashioning a .189 hitting percentage of its own. The Hawks also were superior at the service line with a 9-2 margin in aces and at the net defensively with an 8-3 edge in total team blocks.
New Paltz rises to 22-10 overall and will face either top-seeded Brockport or fifth-seeded SUNY Cortland tomorrow in the championship match at 12 p.m. The Hawks now have qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament final for the third straight year and have made it in seven of the past eight seasons. Oswego finishes its season at 25-10 overall.
The two teams played close early on in the first set, but the Hawks took advantage of several Laker miscues en route to a 7-0 run midway through the frame. A kill by senior outside hitter
Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) capped off the scoring spree and staked New Paltz to an 18-10 lead. Following back-to-back Oswego points, New Paltz went on a 6-0 spurt to post a 24-12 advantage, and while Oswego got the serve back, Borquist floored a kill to give the Hawks a 25-13 triumph in the first set.
New Paltz led from start to finish in the second, leaping out to leads of 4-0, 7-1 and 10-3. Oswego inched closer with a 4-0 run midway through the stanza to draw within eight at 17-9, but the Hawks continued to roll and ended up claiming the second set, 25-13.
The Lakers, who rallied from being down 2-1 to sixth-seeded SUNY Fredonia in the quarterfinals yesterday, showed why they have been a dangerous team all season, going point-for-point with New Paltz before going on a 3-1 tear to claim a 14-10 advantage. The Hawks turned the tables with a 7-0 run, however, with Borquist notching two kills and the Lakers committing five hitting errors during that span. Oswego tied the score at 17-all with back-to-back points, but New Paltz responded by scoring four of the next five points to take a 21-18 lead and force a Laker timeout. Five of the next six points went in favor of the Hawks to bring up match point at 24-19, but the Lakers went on a 3-0 tear to prompt at New Paltz timeout. Junior defensive specialist
Anna Paulik (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) concluded the match following the timeout with a kill, handing the Hawks a 25-22 victory in the third.

Maddie Zwickl (Chester, N.Y./Warwick Valley) dished out 28 assists. Defensively, Paulik defended 12 digs, while Roessler, junior middle hitter

Katy Braddon (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) totaled four blocks each.
For Oswego, senior outside hitter Kelsey Dillon landed eight kills, while senior libero Rachael Ruggaber collected a match-high 15 digs.
