SCOUTING THE HAWKS (10-10, 8-5):New Paltz is tied for fourth place in the SUNYAC with Cortland... This past weekend, the Hawks defeated Potsdam onFridayin a comfortable 64-42 win ... The Hawks overpowered Potsdam from the first minutes of the game with a 9-0 run...The Hawks kept a lead the entire game, credited to their 42.6 field goal percentage and 23 points scored off of 22 forced Potsdam turnovers... OnFriday,Oswego defeated Fredonia 65-53 on the road...The Lakers went on a 12-0 run early, which proved to be the deciding factor as Fredonia fought from behind a majority of the game...Oswego's 12-point win was led by sophomore guard Brian Sortino with a season-best 29 points going 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) from the floor...Junior guard Kyle Covley recorded a team-high three steals and 10 points...The Lakers crushed the Blue Devils on the glass, outrebounding them 47-36...Junior center Mark Candelario snatched 11 of the 47 rebounds. OnSaturday, Oswego dropped a close matchup to Buffalo State 80-76...The game seemed promising for the Lakers when they started the game ahead by eight points...Oswego lost the lead for half of the first period and came out in the second period with another run to put themselves up by seven...The Bengals clawed their way back and took the lead and in the remaining minutes the game was tied at 76, but Buffalo State held on and earned the win...Sortino led the Lakers once again with 22 points, four rebounds, and three assists... Junior guard Walter Sampson scored 18 points and senior forward Rashawn Powell scored 11 points and had seven rebounds...Oswego shot well with a 41.4 field goal percentage, but could not hang on to win... In the Lakers' overtime loss at New Paltz on Jan. 30, Covley scored a game-high 24 points and Powell registered a double double with 10 points and 14 boards.
