Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team cruised to a dominant win on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at the North Turf Field, downing Union (N.Y.) College by a 6-0 final.
The Hawks spent almost the entirety of the game in their attacking third of the field, finishing with a 33-0 edge in shots and a 29-0 cushion in penalty corners.
New Paltz rises to 5-1 overall with the win and faces a tough test on Saturday, Sept. 19, when it hosts No. 5 Skidmore College. Union drops to 2-2 with the loss and visits Elms College next on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Samantha Ackerman opened scoring in the sixth minute, as she buried a rebound that came off a blocked shot from her sister, senior midfielder

Rachel McLaughlin (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) added to the lead in the ninth minute, pushing the ball from the left-hand side of the circle to the right-hand side of the goal, and junior forward
Kayla McKeveny (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) scored 1:50 later to make it a three-goal game.
Despite numerous New Paltz scoring chances throughout the remainder of the first half, the Union defense was able to prevent the Hawks from padding their lead before the intermission.
After scoreless play to open the second half, senior back
Jessica Caruana (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) netted her first score of the season in the 60th minute off a pass from McLaughlin. Freshman forward
Serena Capsello (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) tipped in a feed from
Dani Ackerman in the 63rd minute before Caruana scored off a McLaughlin pass on a corner in the 69th minute to spell the final score of 6-0.
Neither senior goalkeeper
Alayna Wageman (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville North) nor sophomore goalkeeper
Megan Gangewere (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) were tested for the Hawks, while sophomore forward Angelina Stewart turned aside 14 shots for the Dutchwomen. Freshman back Lindsay Barson, senior defender Laura Pacheco and freshman defender Annika Wells all notched defensive saves for Union.
