Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, as the Hawks fell, 1-0, to Vassar College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Hawks drop to 4-1 overall and will take on Bard College in their first away game on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. Vassar rises to 3-2-2 and returns home to face Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 4 p.m.
Tensions were high, as both Vassar and New Paltz came out on the attack but neither team could find the back of the net to break the ice in a scoreless first half.
Vassar found its opportunity in the 85th minute when Jordan Palmer launched a shot from the top of the box and into the goal to give the Brewers the 1-0 advantage. New Paltz was unable to respond, as the buzzer signaled the end of game play.
The Brewers outshot the Hawks, 5-2, and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Offensively,
Charlie Versen (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School) and
Tucker Stern (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) notched one shot each. Sophomore goalkeeper
John Guzzo (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) took the loss for the Hawks, playing the full 90 minutes in goal.
