Women's Soccer Falls, 1-0, to RPI in Overtime

Box Score

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday morning at Alumni Field.

The Hawks drop to 1-6-0 overall and move on to play against Vassar College on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m. RPI rises to 3-2-2 and will face Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m.

Junior goalkeeper Mikaela Sticklickas (Nesconset, N.Y./The Stony Brook School) was an important factor for the New Paltz defense, as she stopped every ball that came her way in regulation to halt RPI's efforts to score.

Halfway through the first overtime period, RPI's Cori Winslow managed to beat Sticklickas in the net to secure the 1-0 win for the Engineers.

RPI outshot New Paltz, 13-7, and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Junior midfielder Hannah Moran (Albany, N.Y./Albany) tallied three shots for the offense, while junior midfielder Skye Kaler (Charlton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and sophomore midfielder Danielle Grossi (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) added two shots apiece.

Sticklickas made five saves for New Paltz between the posts and played the entire 95:55 minutes in her first start of the season.
